College Football/Sophomore Year
Expert: Thom Brooks - 9/5/2008
Questioni am currently a freshman at a junior college i played football in high school. i didn't play my freshman year because i felt i wasn't big enough. i have quickness and agility but not size. I'm around 5"8 and i weigh about 155. how would i go about playing football next year and do you think i would be able to get a scholarship.
AnswerTheodis, hello!
The college you choose to attend will address your question about are you skilled enough to get a scholarship. In this old world, you may not be good enough for some but would be a star for another. You did not mention the position you want to play at 155 pounds so I will assume DB, receiving team, or scat back?
Your size will not prevent you from playing, so get that out of your thoughts. Your heart will determine if you can make the grade.
What are you prepared to do in order to make the team? You will face competition for that position. The other guy may be bigger, faster or have more experience. Are you durable? Are you mentally tough enough? The coaches will look at the package, not your size.
Our nation has plenty of Division 3 and Division 2 and Division 1-AA
teams that would take a look at your football skills.
Do not give up. You are in a tiny window of opportunity and will hate yourself forever if you do not make your best attempt to play the game. Do it!!!
