Question
QUESTION: Hi Thom,

I am 5'9 and weigh 175.  i don't have any high school experience in football because my school didn't have a team but i played when i was 12yrs old.  I played QB but i was more like a RB. I have great football knowledge and work ethic and i wanted to try out for RB at ULL. I run a 4.35 40, squat 525, and bench 250. I was just wondering if u had any tips for me

Thanks

ANSWER: Roderick, hello!

The size does not reflect the ability.  The Div I schools may not consider you as a QB or even a RB, but you certainly would be considered at the Div II, Div III or JUCO levels.  ULL would appear to be a good fit.  Contact them and get the dates of tryouts and the times you can legally be interviewed by the Coaches.

Your 40 and weights are great!  If you prove to be durable, many schools would love to have you on their team.  Georgia Southern's QB, Jsyson Foster was incredible.  The Miami Dolphins cut him but they made a mistake.  Some colleges want the biggest guys that are durable and will hold up.  I believe the smaller, quicker men can excell and are able to handle the durability issue, when they are gifted.  You may be one of the gifted ones that needs the opportunity.

Do not give up.

QUESTION: How hard do u think it would be for me to tryout and make the team as a RB or wide receiver.  I have really quick feet and think i have a really good chance of making the team.

thanks

Answer
Roderick, hello!

It is difficult to make any team.  The question is "How much are you willing to dedicate to making a team" ?

You have to keep in training and then pursue the college you want to get a degree from.  They will recognize in a hurry if you have the talent.  You have to contact the scouts, coaches, former players, TV and radio sports people in your area, local high school or college football officials (go to your state's high school association), and any politician that you know.  It's voting season.  These Democrats and Republicans may be willing to hellp you!

Get busy!!
