College Football/Walking on trying out for fullback
Expert: Thom Brooks - 9/11/2008
Question Good evening Tom, I have several questions about walking on? Do I have a chance of walking onto a team such as U.S.F
without much High School experience? Also i was told for my size ,Fullback would be ideal 5"10 240-250 lbs... Also I guess you could say that im pretty strong My bench is 365 and rising
and my squat is 405... I dont care about a scholarship I just want to play. Also do you have to be a student at the university to walk on? It shouldnt really be a problem transfering though
Thanks,Keith
AnswerKeith, hello!
You need to go to the USF website, find their athletic department, and then start calling or visiting the secretary to the coach. They will give you their requirements, dates and times to interview you for the opportunity to walk on. You can attend some of the tryouts but have to be enrolled if accepted as a player.
They have a rising, quality program and could very shortly be a top 20 team on a regular basis, so their standards will allow them to choose from the list of blue chips. If you are a quality player, you will get an opportunity even though you are up against prospective players that will have more experience. Only you know if you are able to compete with the others. You certainly need to give it your best shot. Remember there are other schools, including lesser divisions, that would allow you to play.
Have a great time and keep working hard. You have a great chance to enjoy the thrill of being a college football player!
