College Football/getting better
Expert: Thom Brooks - 9/27/2008
QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
I'm going to be walking on to a division 1 football team for spring ball.. But my question pertains to getting faster. Do u think I should pay and go to a sports performance center or something like that? Or buy something like the nike sparq training systems w/ dvds and speed manuals and train with a friend?
ANSWER: Marc, hello!
Everything you mention is fine, but you need to keep to the basic fundamentals. You need to have a workout program. You need to running sprints after sprints to improve your time. You need to train with as many people as possible that will imitate the positions that you seek to play. You need to improve your knowledge of Leadership and football plays and football rules. Knowledge is power. If you study the books but do not put them into practical use, then you've wasted yourself. If you work the physical angle only, and do not improve in the behind the scenes football knowledge, then you have limited yourself. If you want to stand out, you must be a complete ball player. Your strengths and weaknesses will be exposed to the coaches and your opposing players.
Have a day!

QUESTION: I understand what you're saying but I've been playing the game for plenty on years but I was injured my senior season of high school. I'm constantly studying the game. But I want your input on rather you believe a sports performance trainer is worth the money $500 and up? Or should I buy the equipment and do it with others?
AnswerI would talk to those who have done both and then make a decision. If you have the $500-800 for a trainer, that's great. If you are going to be motivated to follow through with your plan to buy the equipment and be faithful in using it, then that would be your track to follow. I observe people that buy expensive equipment and never put it to use.
The decision is yours to make. You are the only person that knows how driven you will be to Finish the Drill!
There is an old saying that "Anything Will Work If You Will".
I would suggest writing down Pros and Cons. Reasons and Advantages for each one. Then, write down the Disadvantages.
Take care,
