College Football/What are the chances?
Expert: Thom Brooks - 9/29/2008
QuestionI want to play college football, I just don't know the right procedures in doing so. I have only play back yard football, due to my high school not having a football team. I'm 19 years old 5'11 175 and run the 40 in 4.48. What position would suit me best at that size? I'm very athletic, and have the heart to do whatever it takes to take it to the next level. I know the game very well, have just never had a chance to show my talent. With no experience whatsoever, what division of schools would I have a better chance at trying out for, if I have a chance at all? And also is it rare that people like myself really make it onto a college team with no prior experience? Thanks!
AnswerRyan, hello!
If you are an athlete, the college will give you an opportunity. Without experience, the top schools are going to select the blue chips that have it all. Without knowing what your are capable of as to strength, endurance, speed, knowledge of the game, motivation, determination and Leadership, I cannot give an answer as to the position. Your size and speed would indicate a Defensive Back or Special Teams. You may be a great WR if you have the vertical jump and durability to take hits.
