Question
Hey,
Im a junior in high school and have been playing footbal for the past 3 years.  My senior year is coming up so I'm working really hard to be the best I can be.  I've been looking all over the internet but haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. Please help me if you can.  I just want to know how fast my 40 time needs to be and how much do I need to be able to lift and any other qualifications I need to know of for me to be able to play for a D1 school.  I am a Defensive Nose Tackle and an Right Tackle. Thanks

Answer
Eric, hello!

You need to call the local coaches at all of the high schools and colleges where you intend on playing.  They will tell you the average and great times.  Running a 40 in 4.3 or 5.4 doesn't mean you will be a starter for a team.  They are going to look at your Leadership and overall skills.  Call your local sports directors at the TV stations, radio, newspaper, YMCA trainers, high school football officials, and the fitness centers.  They may have different answers but you can look at the averages.

Take care,

Thom Brooks
