Question
Hello. I am 5'10 170 lb cornerback who plays in the NAIA. I started as a freshman and now i am entering winter conditioning but i want to eventually transfer to D1 for more exposure for the NFL. Is this a good discussion or should i stay in the NAIA? And if i transfer, would i have to walk on or is there a way i can send my tape to my desirable college so i can receive a scholarship?

Answer
Steve, Happy New Year!

You can send the tapes to the college of choice but you may have to sit out one year before being allowed to suit up, depending on the NCAA rules.  They have to make an official decision.

If you're an NFL prospect, staying in the NAIA will not lessen your chances to get into the NFL.  It could lessen your draft position which relates to the salary they will pay initially.  But, remember Jerry Rice?  The greatest receiver in NFL history?  He played for Mississippi Valley State.  Here in Savannah, Shannon and Sterling Sharpe playing for Savannah State and Fort Valley State, were stars in the big league! So, don't count yourself as a disadvantage.

Get your Leadership, football knowledge and physical skills enhanced and you will be playing on Sundays, if your'e willing to work as hard as it takes!

Let me know when you suit up again next Fall, so I can follow your progress!  Only a few chosen and gifted ones can ever play college football, so you're already living a dream!  Enjoy every day.
