College Football/Tryout Football
Expert: Thom Brooks - 1/10/2009
QuestionHi I am a 19 year old about 160pounds and am wanting to play football as a quarterback. I never played high school football but it is something i really want to do. I am about 6 foot. What should i do? I live in knoxville but should i even walk on at UT? Please can you help me?
AnswerDerek, hello!
It starts with a dream.
I don't know if you are gifted enough to play college football but you can find out by giving it the effort. Contact the college of your choice to see if you can get into a tryout. Without experience, you will be on the bottom of the list. The others are blue chips they can select from. So, you are going to have to come up with something to catch the coach's eye. Your mission is not impossible, but it is improbable. You may want to look at a school in a smaller division where the competition to make the team is not as great. If you play a year or two with that school, (you would have to sit out one year to move up a division), you could make it to the larger school's team. But, you may be good enough to be a Volunteer today.
Go where your dream is.
Take care,
Thom Brooks
