College Football/timeouts

Question
Was there a period in time (e.g. 50's-60's) when college football teams were allowed four time outs per half?  If so, When?

Answer
Rich, Happy New Year!

I will continue to research but couldn't find the answer this morning.
The attached websites may have that information.

Officials can use their discretion for timeouts but I just do not remember if there were more than 3 timeouts allowed ever.  Before the rules were formed, I would think they were more flexible, especially after the electronic clock was brought in.

I will continue to explore this week to see if there is an exact answer.

Take care,

Thom Brooks
