College Football - D1 college football

Expert: Thom Brooks - 10/25/2009

Question
Hello, kind of two questions in one, but I was wondering. My goal is to play D1 college football and I have been training hard since I graduated high school, but im a sophmore in college and my school doesnt have a football team, im still training right now because I plan on playing somewhere soon. But I want to be looked at by a D1 school and Ive been out of highschool for two years and my head coach is gone so no records. My question is: are there any semi pro teams that play and end before fall of my junior year and if so could I go play and a college could pick me up from there and then play my junior year? NCAA rules say that as long as you dont get paid its fine to play college ball. And I havent played yet, so I have years of eligibility left. Please answer this. Also could you let me know if theres another route I could take without transfering schools unless I KNOW for sure the school wants me and Im not going there trying out, and being disappointed and just at the school for nothing. (option for instance like college tryouts for non students or something like that, or a organized open combine for non recruits that schools look at?).

Answer
Brandon, hello!

You need to contact the school where you have an interest in playing.  I have attached the NCAA rules, but you need to get the official opinion through the college.  They have scouts, coaches and people that can give you dates, schedules and evaluations.  You do have the opportunity to be a walk on, but they college will discuss the minimum grade standards along with their program's standards to make the team.

Wish you the very best!!  When you make a team, let me know so I can follow your progress!!
