College Football - NCAA rule on touchback during a punt

Expert: Thom Brooks - 10/31/2009

Question
Under NCAA rules, if a punted ball breaks the plane of the goal line, is is a touchback? Once the ball has crossed the plane of the end zone, can a player on the kicking team bat the ball back to the field of play?

Answer
Al, hello!

I have attached the NCAA rules for you to explore.  Article 7 states that the ball is dead when it crosses the plane of the gaol line.  Team A kicks.  Team B receives.  It would be Team B's ball at the 20 after the Touchback.

A penalty or Force could affect that play.
