QuestionDear Mr. Brooks
I saw your article about Hartsville High and Marion High School
concerning a game played in 1967 in Marion, SC. What was your
connection to that game so long ago? I was with the Hartsville team. Your were right about the uniforms. Hartsville also wore
white shoes. Coach Billy Seigler was the Hartsville coach and
is a legend in SC football. He was originally from Georgia.
AnswerHello Jeffrey!!!
I was a 16 year old 10th grader and attended the Land of the Red Fox for less than one year. Hartsville was always a great memory because of the legendary Football teams. I've followed the school for over 39 years!

The team had a big ol' running back/TE and I just can't remember his name. What happened to him? Did he make it to college? Your team was a mystery so I'd love to see pictures from the yearbook.
I am a high school football official in Savannah and coach a men's baseball team. Our Savannah Bombers are an over age 23 team in the MABL (Men's Adult Baseall League), over 46,000 members nationwide. If you're still an athlete and want to play baseball, move to Savannah!!
I had not been near Hartsville until 1998. I was coming back from teaching an insurance class up north and had to go back through some of the old towns I'd lived, Hartsville, Cheraw, Conway and Lancaster. So, every year since 1965, I've followed the sports teams in those great places! When I was in Hartsville, I drove out to the ball yard and the memories of watching those 5-6 games came flooding back. The fan support has always been super for those Red Foxes!
I can't remember the scores of Hartsville vs. Marion but what a strange night it was. I prowled the sidelines and wanted on the field. It was like watching a mirror play itself with those similar colors. I've never seen a game since that mirrored the confusion. Even Boise State's blue uniforms on top of their blue field doesn't beat that night!
Write back and tell me some more of those memories! I've been writing a book for the past 5 years and hope to get it published by Spring of 2010. Maybe we can include your story of Legends Past!
