College Football/football in enzone

Question
Several times this season I have seen a kickoff either land or roll into the endzone and not be downed by a kicking team player, but signaled dead by the official standing in the endzone.  I thought the kicking team had to "down the ball" if it didn't roll out of the endzone after a kickoff.

Answer
Claudia, hello!

The ball would be live until no one makes an attempt to kill the ball, then the official blows it dead.
Usually, the ball is dead when it crosses into the End Zone, if it is not a scoring attempt.

Merry Christmas!
