Expert: Thom Brooks - 2/10/2009
QuestionMr.Brooks,
I would like to know if it is to late for my son to get a tryout for a NFL team.He is 6'6"tall 270lbs.and runs about 4.6 40.He was all state in high school and played one year college ball before leaving for personal reasons. We live in a small town just south of Dallas,Tx.He is 23 yrs.old and still has the skills to play football.Do you think any team including semi-pro would give him a shot?I would like your expert opinion. Thanks
AnswerBruce, Hello!
Your son's age is not a major factor if his skill is qualified for the NFL. He certainly can play for a Semi-Pro team and may have to play for one to get the NFL scout's attention.
He should make contact with the scout for your area. Contact the NFL headquarters (NFL.com) and the Dallas Cowboys. They will give you information for combine dates. He will be competing against the best in the country, the blue chips with more experience, but it doesn't mean he can't make a team.
Contact all of the local media people at TV, radio and newspaper. They will have connections.
Take care,
Thom Brooks
