College Football/son going on to play college football

Question
My son is a senior in high school this year.  He started playing football his senior year.  He was the starting corner back.  The head football coach at our school has a very hot head and has the reputation of not treating his players very well.  My son decided he rather sit out this year than play another year under the coach.  I think he ended up regretting his decision, but he can't go back and change things now.  He is looking to play football in college.  He has now decided that if he played one more year at a high school prep level it would give him a better opportunity to play for a D1 school.  He has had many letters of interest from d3 college football programs.  I think he should go play football for a year at a D3 college and maybe transfer to a D2 or D1 in a couple of years.  What is your advice?

Thanks, Joy

Answer
Joy, hello!

I have attached the NCAA Eligibility rules and telephone numbers.  If he plays at a lower division school and then desires to transfers up to a higher division, he will have to sit out for one season.

The NFL has players who did not even start playing football until their senior high school year or later, so he needs to forget about any regrets about sitting out.  He needs to find the school where he can pursue his chosen degree and they will tell him the football team requirements.

Have a great day!
