College Football/D2 to D2

Question
I played 2 years at a JC and received a full ride to a D2 program. Played and started every game at the D2. I left the school, now looking for another D2 program closer to home. I was under the impression that i can only play D3 now. I wanted to play D2 without sitting out a year. Is this possible? Is there some kind of waiver my former coach can sign to allow me to play D2? Is D3 or NAIA my only option now?

Answer
Chris, Good Morning!  You would need to call the NCAA (telephone number is attached).  They can give you the rules of eligibility.  I used to only think a red shirt medical could get you an exemption but over the years I've read of Hardship and other reasons to waive the year of sitting out.  You can play down a division without the penalty.

Let me know which team you will be on so I can follow your career!

Take care,

Thom Brooks
