College Football - transfer

Expert: Thom Brooks - 5/19/2009

Question
If a walk-on football player transfers from one division to another division in an different conference does he still have to wait one year to play?

Answer
Malcolm, hello!

You do have to sit out one year if you are transferring up to a higher division.  If you transfer to the same division, you have to get a release from the old school if you had any kind of scholarship.

I've attached the NCAA Eligibility rules, plus their phone number.  You need to call and get an official opinion after they see your recrods.

Take care,
