College Football - College Football Possession Rule

Expert: Thom Brooks - 6/27/2009

Question
What was the rule for change of possession after a touchdown in college football in 1911?

Answer
Lynn, hello!

I have attached some websites that may have that information but not sure where that information would be found.  I have given you the phone number to the NCAA.  They may have the old rules.  At one time, the team behind by so many points was given the ball but I do not know when those rules applied in those years.  About 1917, Georgia Tech beat Cumberland College 222-0 (116-0 at halftime) so Cumberland didn't have control of the ball after that first kickoff!

Take care,
