Question
Hey boss, I'm 23 yrs. old and am about to get out of the military. I have been playing football all my life and did very well in highschool. I even got the opportunity to play in the East and West All star game at Raymond James Stadium my senior year. I'm 5'10 215 lbs. I run a high 4.4, low 4.5 in the 40. I bench 225 lbs. 17-20 reps, and want to play ball again more than anything. What advice do you have for me?

Answer
Jonathan
First, Thank you for serving this country and giving yourself selflessly for the US.
I will contact you privately with some ideas and advise.
The fact that you are 23 and served in the military shows maturity and it is of great value to football teams - leadership, teamwork, endurance and the fact that you have a great high school background makes you an asset.

First contact the schools where you want to go.  Get in touch with the head coach or the recruiter for the football team.  By calling the school's football office you can speak to these people.  Let them know of your interest and intent and let them know of your military service.

Jonathan

Make sure you call or e-mail each of the school's football offices and express your interest.  Ask to speak with the coach or recruiting coach.  Then make sure you contact the admissions department.  Let them know of your interest in enrolling in their college and walking on to the football team.  If you have any films from high school get copies of them and send them to the coach - first let the coach know you have them and ask if he wants you to send them.  Next, see if there is a high school coach who would write a letter on your behalf also see if you CO or the ExO of your company or a squad leader would write a letter on your behalf to the coach.  Let them know that you played in High school were pretty good.  That after serving the US it is your intent to attend college and play football.  Highlight your physical fitness, leadership skills, your ability to work as a team and to keep a team together.  High light your abilities when in high school and let them know that you have matured and these skills have matured.

Let them know you want to play more than anything, but equally as important is that you want to go to college and study a certain course and get your degree.

Best of luck.  Let me know when an where you will be playing, hope to see you on the field.
