Question hi my name is james gerring. i play football at a small school called forest area in northern michigan. i love football with a passion and going into my senior year in highschool i cant stand the thought of not being able to play anymore. my dream is to play college football, the only problem is im not very physically gifted. im 5'10" about 175 lbs. i bench press 225. i dont really know how much i squat because i recently had leg surgery but at the beggining of my sophmore year i squated and deadlifted 350 easily. i will be lifting all summer so those stats will improve. last year our varsity team had 15 players so we had to play both sides of the ball. i played every snap of every game all year last year. my freshman year we didnt have a J.V. so i played varsity. my sophmore year i played 3 games J.V. then got moved up. so ive been playing varsity ball since i was 14 years old. i play right guard on offense because im very fast out of a three point stance. we run a wing-t offense so guards pull on almost every play. on defense ive played everything execpt safety. im a pretty good linebacker but i excell at d-line because of my quickness. i also understand the game. i have to correct my coach all the time when he gets some of the terminology wrong. sorry to ramble on like this but once i get going i can talk all day about football. i just wanted to know if i have a chance to play college ball. i dont care what school or what position i play. i just love the game. i really appreciate you reading this. thank you.
sincerely,
James Gerring
Answer James, hello!
Your email sounds like half of that 175 pounds is the size of your heart. Yes, you can play college ball but you'll have to pursue the teams at all division levels. The Division I teams will be looking at the Blue Chips that are the biggest, best and most elite. You would definitely be able to play at JUCO and Division III levels, perhaps higher as you show the Coaches that you can compete.
Depending on your NCAA minimum required grades, and the location where you could attend school, you need to start contacting all of the colleges where you would like to pursue the degree. They will help get you organized for trying out for the team.
This Nation has had plenty of smaller players that stepped up big during game time so don't worry about your size. Play with passion and you will be successful.
