College Football/Blue Field
Expert: Thom Brooks - 4/7/2010
QuestionHello!
Question: Boise State has a blue turf field and I had heard that they are the only team that is allowed to have a blue turf field. Is this correct and if so, does the NCAA strictly enforce it? Where could I find that online to read? I read that Eastern Washington is going to change their field to red w/ black stripes. Is that true and if so, is that permissable by the NCAA?
AnswerJB, hello!
I have attached the NCAA websites but I do not think they could ban any other school from having the blue field, but who in the heck would want it? If EWU petitions for a red field it could happen, but the NCAA would have to approve any change against the normal rules. The Conference would also have to approve, in case the other teams raised an objection. It would seem to me
that Eastern Washington would have an extreme advantage, especially for the first time teams played there. I am an old school traditionalist and would vote for grass.
You should google both colleges and ask their admininstration and Athletic department the news. You can probably get into the university's chat rooms and hear about the scuttlebutt on a red field.
