College Football/Deaf football players
Expert: Thom Brooks - 4/18/2010
QuestionI read a very long time ago that deaf football players invented the huttle to prevent the other team reading their signs. Is there any truth in this? Being disabled myself I'm interested in disabled sports. I used to play amputee soccer. Leg amputees play fielders and arm amputees play goal keeper. Ironic that the only person on our team allowed to touch the ball with his hands didn't have any.
AnswerEric, hello!
I have never heard that about the huddle, but I am certain it contributed to the crowd noise, the secrecy of the play and would certainly be a factor for a deaf player.
I love the spirit of persons disabled that refuse to act disabled. It shows the true heart and character of a person that can overcome their physical changes and still find a way to be a Leader.
I've seen them make everyone else feel comfortable rather than pity, and that is as good as a human being can be.
If you're too old to play, then organize that league and be their Commissioner!!
