Question
hey there Mr.brooks,

I'm currently attending community college in Houston,Texas. I am 19 years old I have not been doing so well on my grades. but i am recently picking them up. football has been my life since i first touched the pigskin. i played 3 years in high school mostly LB. but my senior year i only played in the spring because i got into some trouble. i have no games tapes nothing to go off of. but i know i can compete in the college level. Im only 5'7 185
but i willing to do anything to get back to playing ball! for the past month Ive been work on my speed and strength 5 days a week. i plan to continue for this whole year. i want to at least start off at a juco next spring but i really dont know how to go about doing that. i really i want to just attend university of houston and just give it a shot next fall or spring. do mostly colleges want game tape or do jucos hold tryouts for people the dont attend there school yet?

Answer
Samson, hello!

I have attached some websites for you to review on the NCAA Eligibility.  You do have JUCO football in Texas so contact the schools of your choice.  They will tell you when the tryout dates are.  You can contact the U. of Houston but if you do not have any recommendation/references/ statistics, etc. , it would be tough to get an audience with them.  If you have the grades to play, you can show your stuff for a year and then the bigger schools can determine if you can meet their requirements.  You may be good enough to play for the Cougars now, but those coaches have to see your results!
