College Football/Preparing for college football
Expert: Thom Brooks - 5/11/2010
QuestionI'm a senior in high school and just committed to Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland. I started as a cornerback for the whole season and I plan to play corner/safety in college. I run a 4.47 40 and a 11.83 100. Do you have any idea of what kind of things I can expect to do in college(training-wise) and maybe some workouts I can do to prepare myself? This is their first year having a football program and we will not be playing any games this year, but we will be practicing the whole season and have a "Silver %26 Green" game for homecoming. I plan to be starter next year and I have that mentality to were I wont back down from a challenge, I do what I need to do in order to get it done and I never give up. Also, about what is the average speed for a safety/corner in division 3 football? Thank you for you time and any answer you give will be much appreciated. Thank you - Alan Reece, Chesapeake Senior High School,MD
AnswerAlan,
Congratulations on having the opportunity to get a degree and play college football!
Your speed and time are great so you should be a standout even in higher division play. You need to talk to your college about the conditioning program they are planning. The same workouts you done in high school will be great but the college play will be faster. You will learn their system. Stay away from the enhancement drugs that can cause damage later. Run as many sprints and turns as practicable. Try to workout with the upcoming players, former players, or those in your community that will be playing with other teams. Go to your YMCA, training schools or what is available. Specialists can advise a work out schedule that fits your week's plans.
Have an incredible career!!
