Why are the teams know as the Bison?

Answer
This is a trivia question outside my area of expertise. I am not sure if has anything to do with The College's roots steming from the Buffalo Seminary founded in 1818.  Or it may have something to do with the school's Fraternity Moo Moo Moo founded in 1923 as an honorary pep organization with the purpose of maintaining and furthering college spirit, as well as improving student morale
