What do the letters on the back of officials' jerseys stand for and what are their corresponding responsibilities?

The Letters on the back of the officials signify their position they work on the field.  Below is their position and the general duties:

R - Referee, lines up in the offensive backfield, he rules on actions by the passer and kicker and the backfield; he administer the signals and penalty enforcement, he is the crew chief or head official.

U - Umpire, lines up by the linebackers on the defensive side of the ball; primarily rules on the interior line play, legality of snap, equipment, controls the players and tempo.  Administers the penalties.

H- Head-linesman lines up on the line of scrimmage across from the press box.  He rules on the line play and action at the wings/flanks. He is responsible for the chains

L - Line judge lines up on the line of scrimmage on the press box side.  LJ rules on the line play and action at the wings/flanks. He is responsible for ruling on first downs, forward/backward passess and may have timing, Replay or TV Time out duties

S - Side Judge Lines up 20-22 yards deep toward the defensive backfield on the HL sideline. S is responsible for the deep plays (passes and kicks) ruling on the play of receivers and defensive backs  and responsible for communicating with the head coach on his sideline.  He has some timing duties

F - Field Judge Lines up 20-22 yards deep toward the defensive backfield on the LJ sideline. F  is responsible for the deep plays (passes and kicks) ruling on the play of receivers and defensive backs  and responsible for communicating with the head coach on his sideline.  He is responsible for getting a new ball in on change of possessions.

B - Back Judge Lines up 25 yards deep in the defensive backfield. B is responsible for the deep plays (passes and kicks) ruling on the play of receivers and defensive backs and responsible for  timing
