Question
Hi Thom---I was recruited to play college footaball by several schools---however due to my learning disability I could not get in.  I went to a junior college to play football with the intent to redshirt---which I did because of back injury.  I laid out a year to heal and got in a 4 year school to play.  With bad luck I injured my shoulder before practice even started.  I required surgery on it.  Again I needed over a yaer to heal.  My question is I am very healthy now and I want to walk on.  How much elgibility do I have since never stepping on the field.  THANKS! THOM FOR YOUR ATTENTION---Isaac

Answer
Isaac, hello!

You can request a Medical Redshirt for the first year that you missed, so you should have at least 3, if not all four of the years remaining.  There is a cap of how long you have to complete the 4 years, but the college and NCAA will advise the exact times.

Sorry for your injury but happy that you are going to play again!!

Have a great day!
