Question
When an Official throws a flag it is because there was a foul.  However, as a mom, I would like to know what the player did to receive that foul.  Some calls are self-explanatory, but others...and some are the same thing but called by a different name.  Could you help a mom out to better understand?

I will answer more fully Monday - I am about to leave the hotel for my college pre-game meeting.

Quick answer: The Referee (White hat) will signal what foul has been called every play. Some of the signals are used for different fouls (i.e. Illegal procedure in HS / False Start in College also is used for free kick out of bounds, illegal formation, snap infraction, illegal planned loose ball play, sideline interference). Also the announcers and some HS Referee use the wrong terminology.
