College Football/Walk On
Expert: Thom Brooks - 9/12/2007
QuestionHey I am 18 years old and I need to play football next season. I did not go to college right away after I graduated from HS. I am going to a community college in the spring semester with hopes of getting my grades up and transferring to a d-1 aa school to try to walk on the football team. I am 5'9 160 run a 4.7-4.8 40. I plan on working out all year to get my weight up to the 170-180 range and in HS I was second Team all city and first team all county in the state of NY but was not recruited because of poor academics.
I would like to walk on to a team in the south region NC SC preferably. What schools would you suggest for me and how would I contact those coaches and let them know my accolades and desire of walking on? Also what are the chances of my dream coming true?
AnswerWill, you certainly are at the right time to have that kind of dream. You need to select the college you want to play for and make contact with them directly. They will give you their requirements. You can find a Junior College football program to play for if you do not get your grades up and if you're good, you could still make it to the Pros.
You did not mention your position but if you continue to work out, you will certainly be able to play for some team. Find the school you want and try to get former Coaches and current players to ally with you. Get your records, tapes and articles copied to those schools of interest.
Have a great year and keep me posted on your progress!
