Question
hello my name is vinnie. i am a senior at my high school and i have played football for over 7 years. i am 18 years old i currently am playing football now. i have the grades to get into any college i wanted to but i want to play football after my HS career is over. I ran a 4.49 forty yard dash this past summer at our football try outs. i also benched 205 lbs and squatted 435 pounds. I am kind of small for the position i play for i no sum of the big D1 athletes are over 6ft i am 5'10 175lbs. i also run track and have been a state runner since my freshmen year. i recently took 3rd at our state meet last year as a junior. so i was just wondering with the stats i just gave you what division of college should i try to get into and walk on

Answer
Vinnie
I need more information before I can give you an answer.  You have not provided me with the position you play or your stats related to football.  A lot depends on your skill, natural talent and "Heart" or desire.  These are intangible subjective factors that greatly weigh in the decisions of coaches.  I often tell high school player not to be hung up on a particular division.  If you want to play college football then make that your goal - find a college where you can play.  For instance, with your size [and depending upon your position] you might find a division 1 school (FCS or FBS) that would be interested in you as a walk on or a Division III school.

Your question is "What division college should i look at?" and the best answer is look at all divisions.  But you will be better served by looking at the colleges of your choice rather than colleges in a certain division.  you are going to college for an education and degree and that is most important, so find the schools that you like and are interested in that have football teams.  Then contact the head coach at those schools [regardless of the division] and see if you can walk on.

If your desire is there you will find a program at any level.  I call this the "RUDY" desire that got him to Notre Dame.

Have you thought about running track in college?  You have provided impressive track stats.

Best of luck to you.
