It was Grady Benton. He was one of my football coaches at Randall High School in Amarillo, Texas. Such a great guy, and an awesome coach. We always gave him heck about being replaced by a freshman Jake Plummer, but I truely do feel sorry for him. He did go on to play at WTAMU in Canyon, TX after leaving ASU and set a lot of conference and Division II records. Don't know for sure what he's doing now, as that was in 2002, but hope he is doing well. :)

I forgot to mention that he played in the Arena Football League (AFL) also.

Coach Benton was my coach a couple years ago when he was at Randall High School. Home of the Randall Raiders. He was a awesome off. cord. and I bet he is an even better head coach. He was dying for the chance to be a head coach when I was in school and now he has his chance.

Grady Benton was injured at the end of the 1992 season. He took a year to recover and eventually transferred to a division 2 school in Texas. He is currently the head coach of the Slaton High School Football team, in Slaton Texas.

Thought he was above the game, which truly ended his career at arizona, thought football was life, not a game in which we can play in life. Good guy though when not your coach.

Grady Benton was suspended for the first game of the year that season, which was against Washington. ASU's starting QB that game was third stringer Troy Rauer, as Garrick McGee, the first string QB was also suspended. Mario Bates ran in a long touchdown for ASU and Washington pretty much kicked our butts. It was Bruce Snyder's first game as ASU head coach. Garrick McGee and Benton split time for the next couple of games with Benton starting the last 5 or 6 games of the 1992 season. Benton set a new freshman NCAA record for passing accuracy. Benton started the 1993 season and was injured during the season and was replaced by back-up Jake Plummer, who then started the rest of his career at ASU. Benton ended up transferring to West Texas A&M and had a good career there. Garrick McGee ended up transferring to Oklahoma and never did much there.
