Question
LOS: team A's 12-yard line. Team A punts the ball, but the punter almost whiffs the ball, barely getting his foot on it and it travels to A's 6-yard line. Team A player picks ups the ball there and runs it to team A's 15. Can the ball be advanced, or should it have been dead at the 6-yard line where it was first touched by a team A player?

The ball may be advanced by either team. This is a scrimmage kick behind the LOS [the ball never crossed the LOS] thus either team my advance the ball. Had the ball crossed the LOS and returned back to the A6, the ball would be dead once possesed at that spot. Since the scrimmage kick remained behind the LOS there is no illegal touching [first touching].
