Question
I was wondering how I could move to Bogota and get a job there. I am an IT
professional and have around 4.5 years of experience in the industry. I know
IBM, Sun Microsystem, Microsoft etc. these firms have presence there. I am
madly in love with this girl and would want to be with her. is possible to get a
job there for IT professional. I have just started learning spanish, but i am
only at basics right now. However my english is very confident and fluent and
I am speaking english for around 8 years.

Are there any post grad courses offered in colombia universities in english,
which might help me move and settle there?

Thanks a lot for help.

Answer
Sushil,
This is a very difficult question. I too am an IT professional, though I don't have an IT job here in Colombia. It is extremely difficult to find this kind of work for a foreigner in Colombia. I would know. I've talked to companies very recently that have contracts here and they told me they have no opportunities at this time. When they do have openings, they're usually filled internally.

Your best bet might be to work for aid agencies or organizations that have aid missions in Colombia, though much of their work is outside of Bogota and they may not have a need for IT people such as yourself.

Regarding universities with programs in English, I really couldn't answer that question. You'd have to do a bit of research for that. Bogota has dozens of universities and most have websites which should provide that kind of information.

Best of luck.

Expertise

I can answer questions in English and Spanish on nearly anything relative to visiting Colombia. I can be particularly helpful for visitors to Bogota and visitors interested in buying Colombian emeralds during their travels. I can answer questions on how to apply for a business visa and offer a contact to help with the process.

Experience

I have visited Cali, Medellin, Pereira, Bogota, Cartagena, Villavicencio, el Parque de Cafe, and Santa Fe de Antioquia several times before moving to Bogota. I speak Spanish and English fluently, I have gone through the process of getting a business visa and cedula de extranjeria. I have several reputable contacts in the emerald trade and work with them myself. I have close contact with an adventure tour operator that knows every inch of Colombia.
