Colombia/Driving from Bogota to Cartagena

Question
Hola Marta, would you recommend that two well travelled Americans drive from Bogota to Cartagena and back?  Flying is very expensive.  Is it relatively safe?  How long of a drive?  Thank you

Answer
Hi David,
I would only recommend it if you were traveling during high season when a lot of Colombians are traveling and there is extra security on the roads. Or if you were to travel during a long weekend. Otherwise I would hesitate because it is a long drive, 16 hour drive, the road is good, but there is a lot trucks, and they don't play nice. If you want call me at 703-652-3850 I can advise you more about it.
Thanks
Marta
