Colombia/Colombian Passport

Question
Hi there, my wife and I have to travel to Colombia suddenly. We did not notice that her passport is going to expire during the time we are going to be in Colombia. There is a problem if she gets the new one in Colombia? I mean, travels with one passport that expires and returns with a new passport. Could be better to get a new passport prior traveling? Thanks a lot,

Hans

Answer
Hello Hans,
There will not be a problem if she travels with her current passport and gets it renewed in Colombia. She will not be issued a new passport number, she will just get a renewal and keep the same passport number. Renewing in the States is more expensive than doing it in Colombia. Remind her to bring her cedula with her, she will need it to renew her passport.
If you have any other questions let me know.
Thanks
Marta
