Colombia/Driving from Canada to Argentina

Question
Hey Juan,

I have been thinking of driving from Canada to Argentina and have been trying to do a little research and came across a previous question you had answered back in 2004 (http://en.allexperts.com/q/Colombia-1753/Driving-Canada-Argentina.htm). I am wondering how much of that is still valid with regards to the question and your response? Will it be possible for me to do?

Thanks in advance

Answer
Hey Josh,

thank you for your question and for browsing over previous answers. That saves time...

The situation in Colombia has continued to improve since the posting that you read. I would say that you can travel safely through most of the main roads in Colombia, but the precaution of doing it in daytime is still valid. Kidnappings and guerrilla activity are at an all time low, but you must move around with caution.

As for the crossing from Panama to Colombia, gladly there's still no road. Please check recent answers about what to do to move towards Colombia.

Saludos

Expertise

First of all: I do NOT answer questions about Passports, Legal issues, Government procedures nor person searches. I know very little about these topics. Please don't insist ! I'm a middle-age Colombian with a thirst for travel. I've managed to travel through good portions of this complex but fascinating country and could provide advice on destinations, special care, hazards, prices and highlights. I've also traveled throughout a part of Central and South America, Australia, Asia, Europe and North America, so I think I could provide some balanced advice, avoiding nationalistic hype but also pointing out some particular, unique charms of this unusual land.
