Question
My husband was born in Bogota and currently has a permanent resident card.  We are looking to travel to Colombia with our young daughter for the first time but have been told that he needs his Colombian passport, which was lost.  Do you know how we can get another one?  I know the closest embassy to us is in Houston, but that is over 7 hours away.  Do we have to go to the embassy?

Also, I have heard that all he needs is his permanent resident card and his Colombian passport.  Do you know if that is correct?  I just want to make sure that he can re-enter the country without any problems.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Reneh,
To obtain a new passport your husband will need to go to his nearest Colombian consulate, not the embassy. Cost is $117 USD in a money order.
He needs his cedula, two photocopies of his cedula, 3 pics of himself, size 1.5 x 2 inches. He can get the pictures done right near the consulate. The address to the Houston consulate is 5851 San Felipe, Suite 300. Houston, Texas 77057. You don't need an appointment, operating hours are between 9AM and 1PM.
To travel out of the country he needs his passport and his permanent resident card.
