Colombia/Divorce in Colombia

Question
Is it possible to get a divorce in Colombia for a marriage which took place in the US? Neither my husband or I are Colombian, but I will be living in Colombia and am wondering if it is possible to get divorced there, or if I must do it here in the US? It seems faster and more convenient to obtain a Colombian divorce.

Thanks,
Allison

Answer
Hi Allison,
It can be done, but it is a very complicated process. First you would have to legally register the marriage in Colombia, second you would have to legally separate, and then file for divorce. When the divorce is final you would have to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and register the divorce for it to be valid in the U.S. All this would obviously carry a lot of fees to the government and lawyers. So I would advise against it.
Nevertheless if you are still interested in doing it, let me know and I will have one of our lawyers talk to you. Email us directly at info@colombianpossibilities.com
Thanks
