Question
I am a Colombian citizen with an expired Colombian passport. I am in the USA now, and want to go to Bogota for a few months. Can I travel on an expired passport, or do I have to first get it renewed at a consulate before I travel? I'm trying to avoid making the 5 hour drive to the consulate in Houston to get it renewed. Also, at a consulate, are they able to issue it that day, or do they typically mail it to you. Thanks...

Answer
Hi Ana,
Unfortunately, if you only have Colombian citizenship you must renew your Colombian passport to be able to travel. If you have your cedula, your expired passport, 3 passport size pics (it would be best to have them done right next to the Consulate, they know all the specifics), and $117 dollars, you should be able to get it on the same day. Go very early to avoid long lines.
If you have any other question let us know.
Thanks
Marta
