Question
Wife is a Colombian natural born citizen and was married in Colombia.  But was divorced in Venezuela, does Colombia recognize this Venezuelan divorce?

Should we register this divorce in Colombia, wife may get an inheritance and we wonder if her ex can put a claim on it.  She is a USC now and we both live in the USA, but she has relatives in Colombia.  Her entire family is there.

Answer
Hi Nicholas,
Yes, she should register the divorce in Colombia. Second, any inheritance she receives he has no claim to it, because it is a family inheritance. That is the law in Colombia.
If you need any assitance legally in the inheritance process or if you need help in registering the divorce properly, please email me at info@colombianpossibilities.com
Thanks
