Colon Cancer/elevated CEA during chemo

Renee wrote at 2013-09-13 18:02:07
I am a 65 yr. old colon cancer pt. myself with metastasis to both lungs.  My CEA was at 10.9 and went down to 5.7 when I was on Oxaliplatin which put me in bed for 10 days with side effects of having a stroke.  It was awful!  Dr. took me off it and resumed a maintenance of Avastin and Xeloda 3000 mg. a day and that's when the CEA started going back up again.  Obviously, this is not the regiment I need so he is doing another CEA in 2 weeks to compare and possibly changing my chemo.  I have all the faith in the world in my Dr.  He is not only brilliant (with 2 Phd's from Vanderbilt along with yrs. of cancer research) and I'm certain he will come up with the right chemo for me.  All I can say is "hang in there & keep the faith" That's what I am doing now.  Praying that someday there will be a cure for all cancer.  My best to you.....keep your spirits high.....attitude has a lot to do with it.  NEVER  GIVE  UP!
