Question
My mother-in-law is 66 yo and diagnosed with colon ca last July at that time it was only locally according to pathology, lymphnodes was clear. This month she had symptoms of N/V and CT scan showed obstruction in her bowel and it spread to lymphnodes already and bowel area. She chose chemo pills as first line chemo treatment when she was first diagnosed and it did not respond. This week they planned to have surgery to relieve the obstruction but will not do anything on the tumor. Liver is clear. Do you think at this stage it will respond or get better if after the surgery then will have the intensive chemo or IV chemo?

Answer
Unfortunately if they are only going to give her palliative surgery - presumably because curative surgery is impossible - leaving the tumour intact and in place it is most doubtful that chemo therapy will do much good. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
