dear dr Nordquist,  my brother-in-law was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 11 eight months ago.  since then he has had an operation and is now on the trial treatment folfox-4.  he lives in israel and the hospital is trying this treatment.  what is your opinion?  thanking you for your reply, best wishes dora

I'm sorry I can not help you. This is still an experimental drug and I am not familiar with it so unfortunately I have no opinion at all. Hope it will go well though! Shana tova!

Nordquist, thank you for your prompt reply and for the shana tova.  further to my question.  the cancer has now spread to his liver and they want to operate after finding out if the cancer has spread further after the folfox-4 treatment.  is liver operation dangerous?  what are his chances for survival.  thanking you so much for your opinion.  best wishes dora

Thank you! Depends on how the surgery is done. If it is done in order to obtain biopsies, which is likely, it does not have to be an extensive operation. So the risks can be minimal. To be honest, with this kind of tumour his chances are very slim unfortunately. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
