Question
Dr.,  Since I have colon cancer in my family history, I had a colonoscopy last May ('00).  It showed everything to be clear.  I am now experienceing blood in stool - most bright red, but some dark red.  What could this be coming from?

Answer
Could be hemorrhoids, fissures, diverticulosis, arteriovenous malformation, inflammatory bowel disease, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, infection, or possibly cancer.
Cancer is not the most likely thing since you had a normal colonoscopy less than a year ago, but I would still have it checked out.
