Question
hi thanks for allowing me to ask you questions.  my dad has been diagnosed with signet ring carsonoma. the doctors are saying he only has about 2 mounths to live because the cancer is in stage 4 and has spread to his organs. will chemo and clinical trials help him in any way? i believe my dad can come out of this. he does have an ng tube in and isn't able to eat because his bowels won't work. have you ever seen anyone live beyond what thr dr predicted their life span to be? please keep us in your prayers! :)

Answer
It is very difficult to predict survival times, especially without having a lot more information. However a stage 4 signet ring carcinoma has unfortunately a very poor prognosis. Chemo therapy can at best prolong his survival time somewhat and hopefully - temporarily - relieve symptoms at a cost of sometimes severe side effects. I'm not sure the clinical condition of your father allows for such side effects. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
