Question
My partner aged 58 was recently diagnosed with signet ring cell adenocarcinoma of the colon. So far he has had a right hemocolectomy and is currently recovering from his surgery. he is due to start chemotherapy in tw weeks time proving that the cavity in his wound has healed. During his surgery 19 lymph nodes were removed and 14 of which were cancerous. I would like to to what the best course of action to take at this stage and what the prognosis is. Thank you.

Answer
The only at present available option in this situation is an aggressive chemo therapy - as aggressive as possible! Statistics works best with vast numbers of cases, there it is well suited to predict probabilities. It is not that well suited to predict probabilities in a single case. But that number of positive (cancerous) lymph nodes is certainly not a good sign. So his prognosis is at best uncertain.
