Comedy Movies/RE: My Earlier Question

Question
Hi Again Barbara,

Thanks for your response, I know my question was extremely vague (as my memory seems to be increasingly vague these days).  I actually remembered the movie, literally hours before I recieved your response.  I feel kind of dumb, because I should have been able to remember it sooner...the scenes occur in the beginning and near the end of "The World According to Garp".  As a boy, he climbs on the roof of the Sheering Academy (where his mom is the institute's nurse) and nearly falls off.  His mom rescues him, but the school dean is waiting below (piling mattresses to supposedly break the fall).  The gutter falls instead and knocks the dean unconscious.  Near the end of the film at Garp's mother's funeral, the dean is overheard talking about catching the boy, mistakenly believing that he rescued the young Garp.

Anyway, I really appreciate your time!

Thanks again,
Tim

My earlier message...."This is really driving me nuts. I am trying to remember in which movie a older man mistakenly recollects saving a boys life and says "I just caught him". This part happens near the end of the film, possibly at a funeral. I vaguely remember the start of the film involving the man (much younger) actually getting knocked unconscious somehow trying to save the boy and that is why he thinks he saved him. Any help would be greatly appreciated!"

Answer
Thanks for your kind reply, and for also letting me know you recalled the title of the film.  It has been a long time since I saw "The World According to Garp," so it didn't click with me that this scene was in there.  I'm glad you were able to come up with an answer on your own.

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Plesase do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
