I saw back in the 60's a film with a German Shepherd that was poisoned.He came back as a private detective to solve the mystery.also his sidekick was a reincarnated horse and her role was memorable.I don't know the name of the movie,the actors,or even when it was made though,I think it was in the 40"s.If you can this one you are really good

I think you may be thinking of a film from 1951 called  "You Never Can Tell".  

A German Shepard inherited millions and was cared for by a young lady.  The dog was poisoned and the lady inherited money.  The dog came back as a detective along w/ Goldie his secretary (retired race horse).

I know funny. My husband knows slapstick. between the two of us, we know most of the funny movies and who stars/directed them. we`re particularly fond of movie bloopers, and can recite verbatim from films like caddyshack, meatballs, animal house etc. huge bill murray fans, as well as robin williams and steve martin.
