Question
in 1985-86 prob Jan Feb of 1986 I saw an old movie on TBS. Unfortunately I never got to see the whole thing and have been unable to track it down..... The plot as best I can recall. Newish weds were trying to get pregnant. With the young wife taking her temp an calling her hubby to race home to meet the window of time.

Meanwhile the parents of the wife found themselves unexpectedly expecting much to their embarrassment.

Sorry, but having grown up remote I am NO help with knowing actors/actresses. I do believe this was a B & W movie though.

gosh and golly, is that enough info for anyone to go on?

Answer
Shannon, I've gone looking for this title at the TCM/TBS website, Wikipedia, and the Internet Movie Data Base (imdb.com), using the limited keywords provided, and I believe I might have an answer for you.

I think the film you are looking for is a 1965 film called "Never Too Late," made in 1965.  It tells of a middle-aged couple (Paul Ford and Maureen Stapleton) who discover the wife is pregnant, much to the dismay of the husband.  Their daughter and her husband (Connie Stevens and Jim Hutton) live with them, and she is trying to get pregnant, also.

This was the film that came closest to the plot description you described.  The only reason I'm not 100% sure was it was filmed in color, not black and white.  Still, you note you only believe it was in B & W (I would be surprised if TBS had screened a black and white film in the 1980s, since Ted Turned had a tendency to colorize such films; this was a controversial process that Turner eventually abandoned after starting TCM in the 1990s).

I hope this is the title you are looking for. If so, it is available on DVD (you can check out this title on imdb.com to see if it is what you recall).  If not, then I am sorry and would be willing to try again.  However, to do so I would need more information to track it dowm, inclduing a more specific date for the release of the film as well as any other plot events you recall.

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
