Question -
I am trying to find out the name of two movies I watched as a kid. (late 70's maybe early 80's?) I think they would be classified as comedy's but I am not sure... One is about a Goose that lays a golden egg... it is with real people and I thought Kurt Russel played in it but I can't find it in any of his movie credits...

The next movie I am trying to figure out is about a Lynx cat named Charlie. He wanders around with a guy getting into mischief and I think he has something to do with a logging company... I remember the cat getting on a barge and messing things up in a Kitchen or something... Any help is appreciated!!! Sorry I don't have much info to work with!
        Thanks!

Dana, I am working on your questions, but so far have not found an answer.  The first sounds somewhat like something that might have been shown on Faerie Tale Theatre, which began in 1982, but none of the show's episode titles appears to deal with this story of the golden goose.  I also have found no film dealing with a lynx cat as of yet.

I'll keep looking, but do you have any other information--any at all?  If so, please let me know.

Sorry I can't be of more help at this point.

Hi Dr. Baker!
Thanks so much for trying! The only other info I can come up with is that The goose movie was played for us at school and it is a lot like a disney movie, like Flubber or the computer who wore tennis shoes... that sort of movie. In one scene some teans are in their garage working on a car like a sand buggy and a goose in the garage gets electricuted I think and that may be how she ends up laying golden eggs... One of the kids looks a lot like a younger Kurt Russell...
The Lynx movie was a special on tv that I stayed home from school for 3 days to watch... A guy and his pet Lynx roam around and the cat ends up getting them into a little trouble here and there but everyone seems to like him etc.. There was a guy narrating the movie that sounded like the guy from Me myself and Irene...
I hope this helps!!! If not, that is okay. I appreciate you trying anyways! My computer froze up when I tried to send a reply the first time so if this gets sent twice please forgive me!
  Thanks again!

Answer
Dear Dana:  Well, I've spent a frustrating couple of days trying to locate the answer for you about these two films.  I do appreciate the additional information you sent me, as it did help narrow the search.  In particular, the plot you described about teens in a garage working on a dune buggy and a goose getting electrocuted sounds familiar to me, as well.

I do think I may have the title of the 2nd film about the lynx.  In 1971 there was an episode of The Wonderful of Disney called "Lefty, the Ding-a-ling Lynx" which told the story of the misadventures of a lynx and Ranger Joel (plus a dog).  Unfortunately, it isn't available on video.  If this isn't the show you were looking for, then I'm not sure I could find it, since it is the only other films that I located that included a pet lynx were a horror film from the 1960s (the lynx belonged to a deranged woman and her son, both of whom chopped up people), and a Finnish film released in 1998 called Tommy and the Wildcat.

As for the other film, despite the additional information, and my own memory, I have not been able to find the title.  In some ways, "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" comes the closest, in that it does have someone electrocuted (the Kurt Russell character).  I tried all sorts of searches, but nothing seemed to fit.  Russell did appear in two sequels to "The Computer" but neither sounds like it contains a golden goose.  There was a live-action German film made in 1964 called "The Golden Goose," but it seemed a straight forward fairy tale rendition.  Tommy Kirk, another Disney staple, was in a film called "The Unkissed Bride," also called "Mother Goose a Go Go," in 1966, but it was a bit of a sex farce, and I doubt it is the one you recall.  The film you are looking for may have been part of a series like "The Wonderful World of Disney," or "the ABC Weekend Specials," or something like that.  If so, finding the exact episode could be tricky, esp. if the goose was only a subplot and not the main plot (also if it isn't part of the title).

So, I'm sorry about that film.  I do hope the other title is correct.

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
